The Premier League weekend just concluded and here is a look at some of the winners and losers from the action. Remember, you can bet on future Premier League games here.
Liverpool’s attacking trio
Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League table with an emphatic 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday. However, their stay at the top was brief as Manchester City beat Chelsea to move top on goal difference, though Liverpool have a game in hand. Their win came courtesy of good combination play by their front three who have not looked as sharp in the last few weeks. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were on the score sheet whilst Roberto Firmino assisted Salah’s goal. Their partnership will be key as we approach the end of the season and Jurgen Klopp must have been happy with what he saw.
Manchester City’s title bid
Manchester City’s title bid got a boost after moving back to the top of the Premier League with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Chelsea. Sergio Aguero scored a hat trick while Raheem Sterling scored a brace and Ilkay Gundogan summed it up. This was a really important week for the Citizens in the title race as they faced two home games against two of the top six and they emerged victorious in both. Their recent run has seen the level up with Liverpool with a better goal difference though the Reds have a game in hand. Pep Guardiola is happy with the reaction from his boys following periods of inconsistent form in recent months.
Neil Warnock and Cardiff City
Neil Warnock is up to something with his Cardiff City side following their win away to Southampton. The win moved them to 25 points, one more than Southampton who dropped to the relegation zone following Cardiff’s 2-1 win. This was another emotional day for the Bluebirds following the recovery of the body of their striker Emiliano Sala, who died in a plane crash. The win was more significant when you consider the fact that this was their first consecutive top-flight win in 57 years. If they continue like this, there is a good chance that they might survive relegation.
Losers
Chelsea and Maurizio Sarrri
Chelsea suffered their biggest defeat in recent years when they went down 6-0 to Manchester City on Sunday in the Premier League. This was Maurizio Sarri’s worst day since his appointment in the summer and he will be looking for a quick fix to this. They moved to sixth in the Premier League table a point behind Manchester United but they are level on points with fifth-placed side Arsenal who have a better goal difference. There has been talking that the Italian might be headed for the sack thought it still remains to be seen if the club will act. One thing for sure though is that they need to turn around things soon lest they miss the top four.
Fulham
Claudio Ranieri’s woes continued during the weekend when Fulham suffered a 3-0 defeat to Manchester United. Whereas there is nothing wrong with losing to a team like United, their current league position should have demanded more concentration. The Italian has now been in charge for 15 games with only three of those resulting in wins. His arrival had raised hopes of a more solid team but things don’t seem to be going to plan. As it were they are 19th in the table with a huge gap between them and the team on 18th. You would be tempted to think that their fate has been sealed with regards to the drop, but then again this is football.
Marcos Silva
Marcos Silva’s reign in charge of Everton has come under sharp criticism for failure to live up to expectations. The owners have expressed their disappointment in results in the past and since then Everton have gone on to lose to Southampton, Wolves, and Watford in the League and are now out of the FA Cup courtesy of Millwall. If he does not get his act in order then we are likely to see intervention from the club.
