Kieran Trippier
The transfer of Kieran Trippier from Tottenham to Atletico Madrid certainly takes the prize for being one of the strangest. The 28-year-old England right-back saw his performances plummet back to being average again after being one of the stars of the World Cup a little over a year ago. However, he has proven to be an invaluable signing for Atletico Madrid with his attacking displays. His technical ability to travel up the field and get into the opposition penalty area has been reignited under Diego Simeone and he could get better with time.
Frenkie De Jong
Barcelona signed Frenkie De Jong for €75m in January, seeing off competition from a number of rivals to ensure that they signed him in the summer. He has been played in a slightly different position but even then there have been glimpses of what he is capable of. Barca have not begun the season very well owing to a number of injuries, but the Dutchman has done enough to warrant his continued selection. He will clearly have a bigger role in the coming months and with better players around him you can definitely expect him to flourish.
Hirving Lozano
PSV’s Hirving Lozano clearly needed to make a move in his career and Serie A should give him the test he needs to elevate his game. Napoli have in him, a player who will improve their forward line and provide plenty of chances and goals. The Mexican has made an immediate impact and he scored the second goal against Juventus when they lost 4-3. He has an opportunity to be one of the best forwards in Europe under the leadership of the experienced Carlo Ancelotti.
Lucas Hernandez
Bayern Munich signed Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid for a reported €80m. In Lucas, the Bavarians have a player capable of playing on the left or in central defence, where he is most likely to feature during his time at the Allianz Arena. He missed all of Bayern’s pre-season programme but has now recovered and even played a key role in their last two games against Schalke and Mainz. He will need to establish himself in Bayern’s defence over the coming months and from what we have seen so fa,r the sky is the limit for the young World Cup winner.
Pablo Sarabia
Pablo Sarabia partnered with Wissam Ben-Yedder and combined to great effect for Sevilla last season, but he switched loyalties to join PSG in the summer. PSG have a fiery attack, comprising of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Mauro Icardi, whilst Sarabia can slot in the number 10 position. His versatility opens up a plethora of tactical options and Thomas Tuchel will look to exploit them. He has been a mainstay in PSG’s line up so far to earn himself a national team call up and he can only get better with time in France.
