Everton and Watford rivalry
The Toffees and the Hornets may not be distinguished Premier League rivals but animosity exists between these two teams. The two meet at Goodison Park on Saturday and although the friction has eased a bit, there still exists a shadow of discord between Everton’s Marco Silva and Watford supporters. After sacking Ronald Koeman, Everton made Silva, who was Watford’s manager at the time, their prime target. The speculation started to affect the Hornets’ league form in 2017. Watford made a complaint to the Premier League regarding an illegal approach from the Toffees. Due to poor form, Watford sacked Silva, who would go on to be appointed as Everton manager. This saga is still fresh in the minds of both sets of supporters, who could be even louder when they meet on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester City winning streak against Spurs to continue?
It will be hard to bet against Manchester City when they meet Tottenham Hotspur in the late Saturday kick-off at the Etihad considering the result they got against West Ham last weekend. City have beaten Spurs five out of the last six times they have met. Furthermore, the hosts have a phenomenal record, having won their last 15 games in the Premier League. If the 5-0 win against the Hammers is anything to go by, Spurs will have to be ready to stymie them at all costs.
Promoted teams home debuts
In the first game week newly promoted teams Norwich City and Aston Villa lost their matches against Liverpool and Spurs respectively while Sheffield United rescued a point at Bournemouth. This weekend, all three teams will be playing their first home games and will have plenty to prove. There were a lot of positives to take from all of their first matches and it remains to be seen whether they can carry on. Villa host Bournemouth and Norwich entertain Newcastle on Saturday before Sheffield United battle it out with Crystal Palace on Sunday. Good results from home games have always been important in that it gives the promoted teams a chance to survive in a more competitive division. Can these three teams win their first home matches?
Chelsea to bounce back?
Chelsea’s Premier League campaign got off to a rough start when they were hammered 4-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford. The score line was a bit harsh on the Blues given their performance was commendable. Frank Lampard’s men also lost the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday against Liverpool on penalties. In that game, they played well and were unfortunate not to win in normal and extra time. This Sunday, they welcome Leicester City at Stamford Bridge for their first home match. The Foxes won 1-0 at Chelsea last season; therefore, Lampard will be wary of the threat Brendan Rodgers’ men carry. Can Lampard’s young team register their first win of the season?
Molineux test for Manchester United
United failed to beat Wolves in their last three meetings last season, losing twice and drawing once. On Monday night they have another chance to down the giant killers. Their 4-0 win over Chelsea gave us a little glimpse of what we can expect from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team this season. Wolves will be a tough team to break down but if United play like they did on Sunday, with pace and intensity, they can beat Wolves on their own patch.
