The Ligue 1 season is drawing closer to the end and there will be plenty of action in the second to last week of their season. Here are some of the things to look out for. Bet on Ligue 1 football here.
St. Etienne for the Champions League
St. Etienne will need to win their next fixture against Nice so as to give themselves a fighting chance to qualify for the Champions League next season. They currently sit fourth in Ligue 1 but a win here would at least guarantee them Europa League football for next season. It would also give them an opportunity to finish third should Lyon fail to win in their fixtures. Past meetings between the two have often been very tight with two wins apiece over the last five meetings and four of them seeing Under 2.5 Goals. Nice have won just one of their last 12 away games and as a result, there is a very high likelihood for a home win for St. Etienne who have kept two clean sheets in their last three home games.
Caen to fight for survival
Olympique Lyonnais will host Caen with the resurgent visitors aiming for all three points in a bid to leave the relegation zone. They can take heart from Lyon’s recent outings as their hosts have not been at their best in recent weeks. Caen are not an eccentric attacking side but they managed three goals in their last two clashes and they should be able to hit the back of the net here. Lyon have been woeful at the back with both teams scoring in twelve of their last 14 matches. If the visitors manage to defend well then they could just find themselves out of the drop zone.
Goals galore as PSG seek to end the season in style
PSG have not quite been as competitive recently but they will want to continue with their resurgence when they host Dijon. Neymar is now fully fit and available for selection after a spell on the sidelines with injury. Dijon for their part have not scored in their last three clashes with PSG and are winless against the champions since 2011. PSG have scored 20 goals in their last five clashes with Dijon and there is a good chance for this to happen again with PSG’s creative players looking to end the season on a high.
More trouble for Bordeaux
Bordeaux will play host to Reims this weekend at a time when the two are heavily out-of-form. Neither team has anything to fight for so could we see the stage set for a goalfest. Since the appointment of Paulo Sousa in March they are still to hit the ground running. As a matter of fact he has already lost five of his opening nine games at les Girondins. Reims might have been poor lately but they definitely have more quality and should be able to take advantage against a hapless Bordeaux side who have lost their last five matches.
Monaco for the drop
Monaco and Amiens are both wobbling above the drop zone and the remaining two games could be the deciding match in their Ligue 1 survival. Monaco are currently have endured a horrible vein of form with four losses and three draws in their last seven games. Leonardo Jardim has not been successful in bringing stability to the side since rejoining the club and from the look of thingd they be playing Ligue 2 football next season if they don’t win here.
