Schalke v Hoffenheim (Bundesliga)
It’s been a dreadful start to 2020 for Schalke. They’ve gone six games without a win, losing three times and scoring only once. My worry is that Hoffenheim aren’t much better. They haven’t won any of their last five games with four defeats in that time. Their last outing was a 6-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. Is it possible for both teams to lose? (X)
Hertha Berlin v Werder Bremen (Bundesliga)
Bremen have lost nine of their last ten league games. They have only scored three goals in that time, and none in their last three games. Hertha are winless in their last five Bundesliga games at home, but they proved that they can find the net in a 3-3 draw at Dusseldorf last week. (1)
Freiburg v Union Berlin (Bundesliga)
Freiburg have only scored twice in their last five league games, losing on three of those occasions. They’re still one place above Union Berlin in the Bundesliga standings, but the visitors have won their last two away games in the league. They also beat Freiburg when these teams met in October. (2)
Atletico Madrid v Sevilla (La Liga)
The last three meetings between these sides have all ended in a draw, and just two points separate them in the league table. Atletico have only suffered one defeat at home all season, to Barcelona, but Sevilla are strong away from home, as shown in their 3-0 thumping of Getafe recently. (X)
Crystal Palace v Watford (Premier League)
Palace have won their last two games by a 1-0 score line. Only Newcastle have scored fewer goals in the Premier League this season, and I think that if they go behind, they’ll lose. Watford stunned Liverpool last weekend and, if they come close to repeating that performance, they have a great chance. (2)
Borussia Monchengladbach v Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga)
Dortmund have won ten games in a row against Monchengladbach. They’ve also won six of their seven league games in 2020 and have not conceded in any of their last three Bundesliga matches. Monchengladbach are yet to keep a clean sheet in 2020. (2)
Burnley v Tottenham (Premier League)
Burnley’s draw at Newcastle last Saturday means that they have gone six league games without defeat. They have only conceded twice in that time, too. Tottenham haven’t won any of their last four matches and only have three away wins in the Premier League in the last 12 months. (X)
Nice v AS Monaco (Ligue 1)
Nice have drawn six of their last ten games in Ligue 1. They’ve only lost once in that time, a defeat to Nimes in which they were reduced to ten men shortly after half time. Monaco have gone five games without defeat but none of those results have been particularly eye-catching. They could struggle against a higher standard of opposition. (X)
Saint-Etienne v Bordeaux (Ligue 1)
Last weekend’s derby defeat to Lyon was Saint-Etienne’s eighth in their last ten games. They are sliding toward the bottom of the table and haven’t won at home for three months. Bordeaux have only lost one of their last five games, a 4-3 defeat at PSG. That’s a respectable result in my eyes. (2)
Levante v Granada (La Liga)
Considering that Granada have lost eight of their last nine away games in La Liga, it’s remarkable that they’re ninth in the table. They have failed to score in six of those defeats, too. In contrast, Levante have won five of their last seven home games in the league, including a 1-0 win against Real Madrid two weeks ago. (1)
