Everton 1 v 1 Liverpool – Premier League – October 2015

A game that passed largely without incident is an unlikely contender for a memorable clash, but Brendan Rodgers would likely disagree. Liverpool had only won three of their opening ten matches of the 2015/16 season and made the short journey to Goodison Park following a disappointing draw at home to Sion in the Europa League. The visitors struck first when Danny Ings found space to head home four minutes before half-time, but they could not hold on for long as Romelu Lukaku’s volley ensured the sides went into the break level, with neither side able to find a winner in the second half. The match was to be Rodgers’ last in charge of Liverpool as he was dismissed just hours later, paving the way for Jurgen Klopp to take the helm…

Everton 3 v 3 Liverpool – Premier League – November 2013

The Toffees were denied a first win over their neighbours for three years when Daniel Sturridge’s late goal salvaged a point for Liverpool. Within eight minutes of kick-off the score was already 1-1 as Kevin Mirallas cancelled out Philippe Coutinho’s opener, before the visitors regained the lead when Luis Suarez curled a wonderful free kick past Tim Howard. Two second-half goals from loanee striker Lukaku looked set to give Everton a famous win, only for substitute Sturridge to convert Steven Gerrard’s cross and ensure honours even.

Everton 1 v 0 Liverpool (a.e.t.) – FA Cup – February 2009

Fans were treated to not just one, but two extra derby matches in the 2009/10 season when Liverpool and Everton were drawn together in the FA Cup fourth round and a 1-1 draw at Anfield meant that the sides reconvened to do battle at Goodison Park ten days later. With no goals to break the deadlock, the Reds were reduced to ten men with 15 minutes remaining following a booking for Lucas Leiva, making the task all that harder. Extra time came around and penalties loomed before 19-year-old Dan Gosling, making just his fifth appearance for the Toffees, struck in the 118th minute to put his side into the next round. David Moyes’ side made it all the way to the final that season, only to lose to Chelsea at the final hurdle.

Everton 1 v 2 Liverpool – Premier League – October 2007

Drama aplenty here. The hosts had been threatening throughout the first half when Sami Hyypia’s sliced clearance found the top corner of his own goal to give them a deserved lead, but that was as good as it got for the home faithful. Gerrard raced clear in the second half only to be hauled down by Toffees’ defender Tony Hibbert, resulting in a red card and a penalty, and Dirk Kuyt did the honours to turn the tie in his side’s favour. It looked as though Everton would hold out for a point, but in injury time Phil Neville blocked Lucas’ goalbound shot with his hand to earn another red card and concede a second penalty. Howard guessed the right way this time but could not keep out Kuyt’s second penalty of the afternoon, and the points went to Anfield.

Everton 3 v 0 Liverpool – Premier League – September 2006

Everton’s biggest derby win since 1964 (and their biggest at home since 1909) ended a run of three Liverpool victories in this fixture. Tim Cahill gave the hosts the lead when he found himself in space to slide the ball under Pepe Reina. More calamitous defending from the Reds let in Andy Johnson to beat Reina at his near post, before an error from the visiting keeper present Johnson with his second of the match. A perfect afternoon for the Toffees fans.
