Five players to watch in the Bundesliga this season

The Bundesliga season will begin this week and here is a look at the five players that we think will have a great impact in the league this season.

Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich)

Serge Gnabry is a legend in the making if what we have seen in the past few seasons is anything to go by. He started his Bundesliga career in 2016 with Werder Bremen, where he scored his first goal in his second match. He had a short stint with Hoffenheim last season on loan from Bayern Munich and he will be expected to play at the Allianz Arena this season. The 22-year-old left winger delivered ten goals and seven assists in 22 games for Hoffenheim, and will be even more prolific playing for the best team in Germany. This surely looks like a break out season for the youngster especially considering that Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery are not getting any younger.

Matheus Cunha (RB Leipzig)

Naby Keita is no longer a Leipzig player but life goes on as they have found a suitable replacement. At just 19 years of age, Matheus Cunha managed to score ten goals and provide eight assists for FC Sion in his first season. The Brazilian winger signed with the German outfit RB Leipzig this summer to complete the puzzle after Keita’s departure. The youngster has been described with beautiful words for his achievements and it is almost certain that he will charm his new fans to fall in love with him.

Abdou Diallo (Borussia Dortmund)

Abdou Diallo signed a five-year contract with Borussia Dortmund this summer. The German side won the battle for his signature after a fierce tussle with Olympique Lyon who were also interested in the central defender who turned out for Mainz the last campaign. He was incredible during last season and he will be expected to brighten up the German topflight again this term. He made a total of 27 regular appearances with Mainz in the Bundesliga and so he has enough experience and he will be filling the void left by Sokratis Papastathopoulos who has since joined Arsenal in the Premier League.

Leon Bailey (Bayer Leverkusen)

The Jamaican winger has caught the eye of some great clubs this transfer market, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Bailey is highly rated in the football world and there is a general consensus that he will be a big star in the years to come. He plays for Bayer Leverkusen, and so far he has shone whenever he has had the chance to impress. Last season saw him deliver nine goals and whilst making six assists. If he manages to stay consistent and avoid injury, he will make headlines week after week.

Benjamin Pavard (Stuttgart)

Benjamin Pavard was one of Stuttgart’s most important players last season, even if it was only his first Bundesliga season. He managed to impress Didier Deschamps, the French national team coach and this earned him a call to the national setup for the World Cup. His was a case of fate as the call up would help accelerate his rise to stardom after being considered for a starting role ahead of some more experienced legs, and he repaid the faith as he became one of Les Bleus’ key figures in their World Cup triumph. He has also shown that he has the ability to play in different positions at the back and this is the season to watch his progress.
