Champions League Gameweek 2 Preview: Newcastle can overpower PSG

The 2023-24 Champions League campaign continues into matchday two from Tuesday 3rd October, with last season’s Serie A champions Napoli hosting Real Madrid, who are the record 14-time winners of this competition.

On Wednesday, meanwhile, the ‘Group of Death’ continues with Borussia Dortmund hosting Premier Bet’s partners AC Milan, while Newcastle United will play their first home game in this competition for over 20 years when they take on Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain. ⚽

Both of our predictions on the headline matches were winners on the opening matchday, while this time around we have a juicy accumulator for you to get your teeth stuck into! 💰

Napoli v Real Madrid (Tuesday 20:00 GMT)

After losing their title-winning manager Luciano Spalletti to the Italian national team during the summer, a downturn in form for Napoli was perhaps to be expected, but Rudi Garcia appears to be finding his feet at his new club with two comfortable wins taking them up to third in Serie A.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, have made a perfect start to the season with the exception of their 3-1 defeat to their local rivals Atletico Madrid. England midfielder Jude Bellingham has scored seven goals in eight appearances since joining from Dortmund, while Brazil star Vinicius Junior is back from injury.

Both sides kicked-off their Champions League campaigns with victories against Braga and Union Berlin, and they look likely to dominate this group. A draw would probably represent a decent result for both sides, but we expect Carlo Ancelotti to get one over on his former club with a narrow win.

Newcastle v PSG (Wednesday 20:00 GMT)

Newcastle are another team who have picked up after making a slow start to the season, with Eddie Howe’s side impressively keeping a clean sheet in each of their last five matches, including when drawing 0-0 away to Milan in their opening Champions League game.

PSG have been tough to score against in recent times, too, but more dropped points away to Clermont Foot at the weekend means they are only in fifth position in Ligue 1. However, they did manage to beat Dortmund 2-0 to make a strong start in Group F.

The Toon Army are a force to be reckoned with at St James’ Park, though, and we can envisage them overpowering their opponents on Wednesday. The atmosphere will be frenzied, with their technically accomplished and physically dominant midfield trio set to help them across the line.
