Big Game Focus: Tottenham Hotspur v Borussia Dortmund

Spurs are seeking to make use of their home advantage when they welcome Dortmund in the Champions League Round of 16 at Wembley. Here’s our Big Game Focus. You can bet on this game here.

Spurs won their last game 3-1 at home against Leicester City but, had the Foxes taken their chances, it would’ve been a completely different story. However, Mauricio Pochettino’s men go into this game in full confidence. They have won four league games in a row but two losses in cup competitions were sandwiched between them. Besides, they’re only five points off in league leaders Manchester City.

Borussia Dortmund are looking to secure their first league title in six years but have endured a poor run of results which has let giants Bayern Munich sneak back in. Despite that slight hiccup, Dortmund are still a very competent outfit. This game at Wembley will provide an acid test on how far they’ve come.

These two teams have met each other a couple of times in recent seasons. In the last four meetings, both have two wins apiece.

Betting Preview

The last four meetings between these sides have produced Over 2.5 Goals. Six of Spurs’ last ten games have produced three goals or more. Therefore you can back Over 2.5 Goals at odds of 1.75.

In their last four meetings, only one match saw one team fail to score.  Spurs have only failed to score in two of their last ten games while Dortmund have found the back of the net in 13 out of their past 15 matches in all competitions including friendlies. So you can back Both Teams to Score at odds of 1.60.

Son Heung-min has been a crucial player for the Spurs ever since their best player, Harry Kane, went down with an injury in January. The South Korean scored against Leicester to take his goal scoring tally to 10 goals in his last 11 appearances. Therefore, you can back Son Heung-min as Anytime Goalscorer at odds of 2.40.

Team News

Spurs will be missing their top scorer Harry Kane who is still recovering from an ankle injury. Ben Davies and Dele Alli will also miss out due to injury. Eric Dier and Erik Lamela are still doubtful though.

Dortmund will really miss the services of captain Marco Reus. Other absentees include Lukasz Piszczek, Julian Weigl and Paco Alcacer, who is sidelined by a shoulder injury.
