Premier League Team of the Week: September 14-15

It’s no surprise to see Norwich City well represented in our Team of the Week.

Tim Krul (Norwich)

The Canaries have been tipped to ruffle a few feathers this season and those suspicions were confirmed on Saturday with a famous win over champions Manchester City. Krul made six saves during the match; only Arsenal’s Bernd Leno made more this weekend.

Serge Aurier (Tottenham)

Tottenham made light work of Crystal Palace as they returned to winning ways with a 4-0 win. Aurier created two of the goals, firstly watching his cutback fly in via Patrick Van Aanholt’s boot, before his cross was emphatically converted by Son Heung-Min just two minutes later. Kieran Trippier’s departure has left the right back slot vacant at Tottenham and, on this performance, the Ivorian looks best placed to fill it.

Ibrahim Amadou (Norwich)

As first Premier League starts go, they don’t get much better than this. Amadou was drafted into Daniel Farke’s side to face Manchester City after an injury crisis in defence, but the 24-year-old didn’t look like a newcomer. He made ten clearances and three interceptions as Norwich held out.

Harry Maguire (Manchester United)

Maguire became the world’s most expensive defender when he swapped Leicester for Old Trafford last month, and he was in superb form on Saturday against his former club. He won five of his six aerial duels, more than any other player, and was successful in both of his attempted tackles.

Diego Rico (Bournemouth)

Bournemouth have their first home win of the season as Everton tasted defeat on their trip to the sunny south coast of England. It was Rico who set up the third goal to seal the victory, volleying a through ball to Callum Wilson to finish with aplomb. With four tackles and three interceptions to his name, it was a good afternoon’s work for the Spaniard.

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham)

The South Korea forward extended his enviable goalscoring record against Crystal Palace with a first half brace. Having opened the scoring with a disguised finish from his left foot, he doubled his tally with a powerful volley to seal the win after just 23 minutes. He now has now scored in all four of his home games against the Eagles in the Premier League.

Emiliano Buendia (Norwich)

Buendia provided an assist in each half as the Championship winners put three past the Premier League holders. No Norwich player had more touches of the ball (61), while he ended the match having won four tackles and completed five dribbles. Buendia means “good day” in Spanish – how fitting!

Scott McTominay (Manchester United)

Nemanja Matic was recalled to the Red Devils line-up against Leicester, but it was the man nine years his junior alongside him that stood out. McTominay has started all five of United’s games this season and looked comfortable and confident here. He completed four dribbles (a match high), while only Ashley Young had more touches for the hosts.

Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Liverpool warmed up for their opening Champions League game at Napoli with victory over Newcastle. The league leaders trailed early on, but a double from Mane ensured that they went into half time with a vital lead. The Senegalese striker is still yet to taste defeat at Anfield in a red shirt.

Tammy Abraham (Chelsea)

What a start to the season for Tammy Abraham! Chelsea’s number nine scored his first hat trick for the club in a comfortable win at Wolves. Two smart finishes in the first half showcased his goalscoring credentials but his third, which came after he beat Conor Coady with quick feet, was the personal highlight. All 11 of Chelsea’s league goals this season have come from England U21 players.

Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)

Bournemouth’s clashes with Everton have tended to be high-scoring affairs, and it was no different on Sunday as the Cherries ran out 3-1 winners. Wilson both opened and completed the scoring at the Vitaly Stadium, giving his side a vital three points.
