Winners and Losers from Premier League final day

The thrilling 2018/2019 Premier league season came to an end with Manchester City clinching the title, while Liverpool missed it with a whisker. Here are the Winners and Loser from the Premier League: Match Day 38. Bet on the Premier league here.

Winners

Manchester City

Manchester City retained their Premier League title and held off Liverpool’s majestic challenge by coming from behind and beat Brighton at the Amex. Pep Guardiola’s team went into the match with knowledge that a win would see them become the first team to retain the crown since Manchester United 10 years ago. This was City’s fourth Premier League title with only Manchester United and Chelsea with more.

Golden boot winners

Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored on the final day of the Premier League to take their tally to 22, the same as Mohamed Salah, to share the Golden Boot. This was also the first time that three African players have shared the Premier League Golden Boot. However, this is the lowest winning total since 2010/2011, when Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez shared the Golden Boot with 20 goals each.

Over 2.5 Goals bettors

Over 2.5 Goals was the winning bet in the final match day of the Premier League. Crystal Palace against Bournemouth was the highest scoring match with eight goals, whilst only four matches didn’t have three or more.

Losers

Liverpool

Despite their magnificent season with 97 points, Liverpool finally fell just short in the title race. They lost just one match all season against eventual champions Manchester City. However, despite finishing the season with a 2-0 win against Wolves, the Reds would feel like they dropped too many points in unusual situations, which eventually cost them their Holy Grail of the title. The Reds were top of the league on Christmas day and entered 2019 seven points clear. The goalless draws against their arch-rivals Man United and Everton, plus the 1-1 draws with Leicester and away at West Ham.  All season Liverpool dropped just 17 points but, City were different class.

Manchester United

United suffered another humiliating defeat against Cardiff at home in the final day of the season.  The Red Devils have won just one of their final seven games of the season. Already relegated Cardiff looked to bid farewell to the Premier League in style and did so with an assured performance. United will play in the Europa League and will look to rebuild the squad over the summer to close the gaps between them and the top two. United finished 32 points behind champions City, the most since 1974.

Jose Holebas

Watford suffered a painful 4-1 loss against West Ham in their final league match of the season meaning they’ve managed just one win in six going into the FA Cup final with on Saturday. Moreover, the Hornets will be without their defender Jose Holebas who received a meaningless red card and will now miss the final. Watford will appeal Holebas’ red card but at the moment the 34-year old will not play at Wembley.
