Getafe
Getafe are closing in on a Champions League place after seeing off Girona 2-0 over the weekend in La Liga. Goals from Jorge Molina and Angel Rodriguez in either half were enough to see off the struggling visitors. The victory ensured that they tightened their grip on the sought-after fourth spot in the table by moving on to 58 points after 36 games, three points clear of nearest challengers Sevilla, who lost to Leganes on Friday. Its all looking good for the unfashionable Madrid club and their coach Jose Bordalas who had to watch from the stands due to his touchline ban when they played Real Sociedad..
Atalanta
Elsewhere in Italy, Atalanta Atalanta took a big step towards Champions League qualification with a 3-1 win at Lazio in Serie A on Sunday. The homes side took the lead within the first three minutes through Marco Parolo but goals from Duvan Zapata, Timothy Castagne and an own goal by Wallace saw Atalanta complete a comeback. They are now fourth on 62 points in the Serie A table and have moved within one point of third-placed Inter Milan, who were held to a goalless draw by Udinese on Saturday.
Santi Mina
Valencia confirmed their credentials of making the Europa League places with an entertaining 6-2 win away to Huesca over the weekend. Central to their success was Santi Mina who scored twice and added a pair of assists as they desperately chased a Champions League place. Whereas they were unlucky, Mina can take positives from his display that summed up how he has been through the season. He has managed six goals from 33 appearances and has been chipping in with assists.
Girona
Girona’s fortunes continued to dwindle in La Liga following another defeat away to Getafe during the weekend. They result saw them drop to the relegation spot with 37 points, one behind Real Valladolid with two games to play. They have had problems in recent weeks with only one win from their last five league outings and they might regret not taking some of the chances if they end up being relegated.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund could have handed the title to their arch-rivals Bayern Munich after drawing their fixture by a 2-2 scoreline away to Werder Bremen. Two first-half goals that included a solo effort from Christian Pulisic and a free kick from Paco Alcacer, gave the visitors a 2-0 lead before they self-destructed after halftime. Kevin Moehwald pulled one back for Bremen before Claudio Pizarro handed their title hopes a potentially fatal blow when he scored Werder Bremen’s equalizer. As it stands they are now four points behind Bayern Munich with two games before the end of the season.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Eintracht Frankfurt with a 6-1 scoreline to boost their Champions League hopes at the expense of their hosts. The result sees fifth-placed Leverkusen move level on points with Frankfurt, in fourth, ahead of the final two games of the season. The battle for the final Champions League spot seems like it will go down to the wire and Frankfurt could miss out if they don’t win their last two fixtures. Should that happen, they will rue their missed opportunity here.
