Premier League Team of the Week: December 8-10

Chelsea’s goalscorers are the obvious choices for the latest Team of the Week. Click here to bet on the upcoming Premier League matches.

Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)

Tottenham kept their first clean sheet in four games at Leicester, the first time they have stopped the Foxes scoring in a league meeting since 2000. Lloris made three saves and, as such, should be recognised for his contribution.

Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)

Not only did Chelsea end Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, but they did it with a clean sheet. Azpilicueta’s block on Leroy Sane kept his side level in the first half, but the stat that stands out is his 13 tackles during the match. Having just signed a new deal, Chelsea can sleep safe for the foreseeable future.

James Tarkowski (Burnley)

Burnley have their first win in nine matches thanks to Tarkowski’s first half goal. Visitors Brighton struggled to deal with the England defender at both ends of the field as he made five clearances to keep them at bay. Those three points have lifted the Clarets out of the relegation zone.

David Luiz (Chelesa)

The Brazilian will make the headlines for his header that put his team two goals to the good, but equally important was an early challenge on Sane that denied the German a certain goal. Maurizio Sarri’s faith in him has paid off here.

Lucas Digne (Everton)

Digne’s last-minute free kick rescued a point for Everton in a dramatic match against Watford. His goal capped a fine performance in which he had 81 touches of the ball (bettered only by Andre Gomes) and completed 41 passes; only Gomes and Yerry Mina made more.

N’golo Kante (Chelsea)

Kante’s change of position this season has come under scrutiny of late, but it’s done his goalscoring exploits no harm. The Chelsea number 7 scored his second league goal of the season against Manchester City with a powerful strike. He’s already reached his highest tally for a Premier League campaign!

Lucas Torreira (Arsenal)

Torreira scored at the Emirates for the second weekend in a row as Arsenal scraped victory over Huddersfield. The Uruguayan had already stung the palms of visiting keeper Jonas Lossl before his acrobatic volley broke the deadlock at the Emirates with seven minutes remaining, extending the Gunners’ unbeaten run to 14 games in the league.

Mo Salah (Liverpool)

Until Saturday’s match at Bournemouth, it would have been fair to say that so far this season Salah had yet to reach his 2017/18 heights. That all changed at the Vitality Stadium, where the “Egyptian King” hit a fine hat trick. He might have been offside for the first, but his latter two sent a clear signal to Manchester City of the Reds’ power.

Dele Alli (Tottenham)

In a Tottenham side missing the talents of Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen, Alli was the driving force at Leicester. In addition to his goal, he also completed six dribbles (unsurprising a match high) and completed 34 passes, more than any Leicester player managed. Spurs remain in the top four.

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham)

Two marvellous contributions from the Spurs livewire ensure his place in our Team. First, an unstoppable strike from outside the box with his left foot to give Spurs the lead. Second, a shimmy and right-footed cross to set up Alli. He’s now scored in three of his last four league games.

Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)

Rashford picked up two assists for the second weekend in a row in United’s win over Fulham. It looked as though he wouldn’t crown his performance with a goal, but he eventually beat Sergio Rico at his near post to round off the scoring.
