Premier League Team of the Week: November 24-25

Three Huddersfield players are included in our latest Premier League Team of the Week.

Wayne Hennessey (Crystal Palace)

Hennessey was at his best against Manchester United as his side claimed their first point against the Red Devils since 2015. His saves to deny Paul Pogba and Ashley Young either side of the interval kept his side level and justifies Roy Hodgson’s decision to select him ahead of summer signing Vicente Guaita.

Christopher Schindler (Huddersfield)

Huddersfield picked up their first away win of the season with an impressive display against Wolves. Schindler won five tackles and made five interceptions to preserve his side’s clean sheet. They are now unbeaten in three league games, their longest run in 2018.

Virgil Van Dijk (Liverpool)

Van Dijk was perfect against Watford. That is to say, he won all eight of his aerial duels and completed all three of his attempted tackles as the Reds kept their eighth clean sheet of the season. Hornets captain Troy Deeney heaped praise on the Dutchman recently; he was right.

Sol Bamba (Cardiff)

It’s not often that a defender on the losing team is singled out for praise, but Bamba’s efforts in his side’s defeat to Everton should be noted. The towering centre back made 12 clearances in the game, including one on the goal line to deny Gylfi Sigurdsson. Next up for the Bluebirds: a home game against Wolves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Liverpool were made to work for their victory at Watford, but any nerves seemed to settle when Alexander-Arnold added their second goal. Senior teammates entrusted him with a free kick 30 yards from goal, and he did not disappoint with an emphatic strike to beat Ben Foster. This is his second appearance in our Team this season – it’s unlikely to be his last.

Aaron Mooy (Huddersfield)

A goal from the Australian midfielder each side of half time gave the Terriers all three points at Molineux. Having opened the scoring after just six minutes with a low strike, he doubled the lead with a free kick 15 minutes from time. After a standout 2017/18 campaign, he’s up and running this season.

Jonathan Hogg (Huddersfield)

Hogg marshalled Sunday’s match with a total of ten tackles and interceptions, while no player completed more passes than his 76. To put that into context, Wolves midfielders Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho only managed 55 between them.

Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham)

Claudio Ranieri is off to a winning start as Fulham manager after his team came out on top in a thrilling tie against Southampton. Last season’s star player Sessegnon has looked more comfortable in the Premier League in recent weeks, and he was back to his best with two assists here. Will his side start to climb the table?

Dele Alli (Tottenham)

Alli netted his sixth goal against Chelsea in their last five meetings with a perfectly executed header that set the tone for the evening ahead. He then put Son Heung-Min through to score with a piece of quick thinking. Chelsea must be sick of the sight of him!

Aleksandar Mitrovic (Fulham)

The Serbian striker proved that his early-season form was no fluke with a brace against Southampton. He grabbed his first of the afternoon with a typical header, but his second was more special. An instinctive volley from Sessegnon’s flick-on saw Fulham retake the lead. He now has seven Premier League goals in 13 matches, having managed just ten in 40 appearances for former side Newcastle.

Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

It would be impossible to omit Sane from the team after his performance at West Ham. Rumours have swirled of the German’s struggles in recent months, but he registered two goals and an assist in the rout at the London Stadium. Who can tell whether that will be enough to earn another start next weekend.
